Veterans

End of Season note from your out going captain:

It is with some sadness and some relief that I write this, my final communication, to you as Captain of BB Eagles AFC - Veterans XI.

This evening the 2007 AGM will take place and my resignation will be
formalised. I am pleased to advise that a 'potential' replacement has been
found for next season and he is currently seriously considering the
role. I am hopeful that the club will be in a position to announce my
replacement in the very near future.

I have been Captain for 4 seasons and have really enjoyed doing the job. I
intend to carry on playing next season -if selected. My reasons for stepping down are 1) I now have 2 children under the age of 3 and I'm sure most of you know what a full time job it is looking after young children.

Hence any spare time I may have had has now all but disappeared. 2) I feel
it is now time for some fresh blood and new ideas to take the Vets forward.

Perhaps due to my lack of time over the last couple of months, we have been
struggling to get people committed to playing week in week out. A new Captain and maybe the injection of some new players should help instill some much needed freshness and enthusiasm to the team. 3) My job description has recently changed and this has impacted on how I manage my time during a working day.

We had a good Vets turn out for the Annual Club Dinner last Friday
evening - 11th May. In total there were circa 65 guys there from the Club and
although this figure is a little disappointing (total membership approx.
110) , I think that this may have been caused in some part by the very poor
Speaker at last year's dinner which had left a bad taste in everyone's
mouth ('scuse the pun).

I am delighted to advise those of you who weren't there, that this year the Dinner was a fantastic success. The format was totally revamped with
each team being asked to present its own report from the season. Gary
Waterson did a great job as Master of Ceremonies - and each Captain or a
nominated representative then spoke in turn. Each speech ending with the
presentation of the team's Player of the Year award. This turned out to be a very enjoyable, informative, noisy and regularly hilarious 90 minutes of
entertainment - any comedy club would have been pleased to present such
a show.

I hope that this format will be repeated next year - I'm sure we will
get a better turn out - spread the word !!

For the sake of good order and to round matters off, here are the Stats for
the Vets 2006/7 season.

My thanks also to those Vets regulars (you know who you are) who are so

I wish you all an enjoyable and peaceful summer and look forward to
catching up with you all next season (if not before).

Yours
Wiz
