On a grey Saturday afternoon the 3s set about claiming the win that would seal the league title in front of our own fans.

In our sexy away kit we looked the business and we started the game at a high tempo and chances came straight away. A combination of good defending and good fortune meant that the oppo were able to keep us out until Dave Jones hooked a cross in which was only partly cleared to the edge of the box where the boy from Brazil with unbelievable tekkers Jose was lying in wait to smash the ball into the top corner. 1-0.

More chances came and we felt hard done by on several occasions not to get a pen when there were clear shoves going on in the box. Mild-mannered Tony turned Hulk after one blatant barge but soon after we were two up when a free-kick was swung in and there was Jose again to head home into the bottom corner.

We were guilty of over-celebrating though and as the oppo kicked off Dave O was still scratching his balls on the halfway line whilst Dave J was already smoking his victory cigar. This meant Old Lyonians had a free run on goal and their striker finished really well dinking the ball over the onrushing Horace.

A period of pressure then followed and some bad defending led to Dave Jones getting left one on one with their striker. As the lad knocked the ball past Dave he made his best contribution of the game by sticking his leg out and hacking him down. The yellow card was deserved but it was worth it!

Jones then almost did the unimaginable at the other end, not only did he get a header on target but it was actually going in until it was selfishly cleared off the line. Boo.

At half-time we knew we were in a scrap and we'd have to work hard to get the win.

5 minutes into the second half we had the chance to add to our lead from the spot when Ben was taken down by the keeper. Cam decided to get in on the action and stuck a low hard strike into the back of the net.

Carl and Charles came on and provided some fresh legs and lots of running and it wasn't long before goal number 4 came courtesy of Oli who stooped to nod in from a Dirty Harris corner.

We made it 5 when man of the match Phil who gave a terrier like performance skipped past a couple of challenges and laid the ball on a plate for Tony to slot home. Unfortunately that was the big man's last contribution as he went over on his ankle a couple of minutes later and couldn't carry on leaving us with 10 men for the last 25 in tough conditions as the heavens opened and we got soaked.

Understandably the oppo were able to get back into the game a bit more and Horace made a superb save to deny them a second.

At the other end we were still creating chances and after Carl caused havoc in the box Ben got on the end of the move and put us 6-1 up. The same player made it 7 to put him ahead of Tony in the race for second top scorer. Good work Tramp.

The final whistle went and on came the cava to spark the celebrations as we became champions with four games to go!!! A tremendous effort boys and it's well deserved.

Jose's hatrick was completed when he won the port in the raffle and GSSC was treated to some awesome karaoke from the boys before things got really messy with the introduction of some turbo shandies, Hulks and whatever that pink pint was!

With the title now in the bag let's see if we can go the league season unbeaten but whatever happens this has been a season to be really proud of so congratulations lads.
